Welcome to Andrea Haven

I’m Andrea Brockbank — a Registered Nurse with nearly 40 years of experience, a certified Havening Practitioner, and a transformational coach based in Newcastle, NSW.

I created Andrea Haven because I have spent four decades watching the most compassionate, dedicated people I know — nurses, midwives, doctors, allied health professionals, carers — give everything to others and quietly fall apart in the process.

This is a warm, safe, and genuinely supportive space where healing isn’t just talked about. It’s experienced.

What is Havening Techniques®?

Havening is a gentle, scientifically-backed psychosensory therapy that uses calming touch to help the brain release the emotional weight of stress, anxiety, and trauma.

It works at the level of the amygdala — the part of the brain where traumatic and stressful memories are stored — and creates the deep, calm brainwave state associated with healing and restoration.

Most people describe feeling lighter, calmer, and more at peace after a session. Some describe it as feeling like a heavy coat has been lifted from their shoulders.

Our Expertise Can Assist With

The story behind Andrea Haven

There is a question that has followed Andrea through nearly four decades of nursing. She has asked it at bedsides and in boardrooms, in remote communities and busy emergency departments, in workshops and in quiet one-to-one conversations. The question is simply this:

"Who is caring for the people who care for everyone else?"

Andrea Haven was built to answer that question.

The Nurse

Andrea is a Registered Nurse with nearly 40 years of experience — and if you sit with her for more than five minutes, that will become completely clear. Not because she tells you, but because of the way she listens. The way she notices. The way she creates a space where people feel safe enough to finally say the things they have been carrying alone.

Her nursing career has taken her almost everywhere the health system reaches. Emergency departments and acute care. Community health and women’s health. School-based youth health and child protection. Nurse Navigation, paediatrics, and persistent pain. Healthcare leadership and clinical education. And for more than six years, remote communities in the Pitjantjatjara Lands of South Australia, Thursday Island, and the communities of far north Queensland — where she lived and worked alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. She has learned through a combination of all this experience, the importance of culture, compassion, understanding, and meeting someone where they truly are.

She holds a Master of Nursing specializing in Leadership and Management — completed, quietly and determinedly, during the upheaval of COVID — and has spent her career not just working in healthcare, but thinking deeply about it. About what it costs the people who do it. About what it asks of them. And about what they deserve in return.

Discovering Havening

A few years ago, Andrea encountered something that stopped her in her tracks. It was called Havening Techniques® — a gentle, neuroscience-based psychosensory therapy that uses touch to help the brain release the emotional charge of stress, trauma, and anxiety.

She trained with Dr. Robin Youngson in New Zealand and became a certified Havening Practitioner. And then she watched what happened when she brought it into her work with nurses, midwives, and individuals carrying invisible weight. She watched stress physically leave people’s bodies. She watched faces soften. She watched people leave sessions feeling, as one client described it, “like reading a story about something that used to hurt, but without any of the pain.”

She knew immediately that this was something the healthcare world needed to know about. And she has been quietly, passionately, bringing it there ever since.

The art of Visioning

Alongside her nursing career, Andrea trained as a Transformational Life Coach and Consultant with the Life Mastery Institute — studying under one of the world’s leading teachers in human potential and possibility thinking. This is where she discovered the practice of Visioning — a deeply grounded, scientifically informed process of reconnecting with your deepest dreams and purpose.

She began weaving Visioning into workshops for nurses and midwives across New South Wales and Queensland. The rooms filled. The evaluations came back — nines and tens, page after page. “She was magnetic,” one nurse wrote. “This blew my mind,” wrote another. The NSW Nurses and Midwives’ Association formally recommended expanding the program to more locations across the state.

And then COVID arrived. Multiple planned workshops were cancelled overnight.

Andrea kept going. She delivered an online program for nurses and midwives navigating grief and loss at the start of the pandemic. She completed her Master’s degree. She trained in Havening. She kept asking her question — and kept building her answer.

The person behind the practitioner

Andrea has lived in Queensland most of her life, and recently moved to Newcastle, NSW, with her husband — her greatest supporter and her wonderfully energetic renovation partner. She is blessed with three beautiful children,  four grandchildren, two stepdaughters, and two step-granddaughters, along with the partners who have joined this family and whom she adores. Family is at the heart of Andrea's life and deeply informs her understanding of love, connection, and what truly matters. When she is not with the people she loves, you will likely find her outdoors — she believes deeply in the healing power of nature, and many of her self-Havening videos are filmed in the beautiful locations she explores around the NSW coast and hinterland.

She has also written a children’s book — ‘Thoughts and Dreams and Trampolines’ — which tells you something important about her. She has always believed that the inner world matters. That our thoughts shape our lives. That imagination and possibility are not luxuries but necessities. That belief is woven into everything she does at Andrea Haven.
